Love is in the air this Valentine's season, and I’ve fallen head over heels for my latest completion: the Cable Waterfall Skirt. If you’re looking for a project that combines elegance with comfort, this top-down knit is a fantastic choice.
The Yarn: Rico Design Light and Long Tweed
For this project, I used Rico Light and Long Tweed. One of the biggest wins here was the weight—it truly feels as light as a feather! I managed to finish this entire skirt using only 4 balls of yarn. The tweed texture adds a beautiful depth to the cables without making the garment feel bulky.
Pattern Adjustments & Tips
This is a free pattern by Drops Design, originally spotted by @catlohgl. While the pattern is excellent, I made one crucial modification for a better fit:
-
The Waistband: I knitted a slightly longer waistband (approx. 3.5cm).

-
Pro Tip: I tucked a 3cm elastic band inside the waistband. This provides much-needed support at the top so the skirt stays perfectly in place. I highly recommend not skipping this step!
Versatility
Because this is a top-down knitting pattern, it is incredibly versatile. While I loved the Rico Tweed, almost any yarn weight works. Just keep in mind that if you choose a thinner yarn, you will need to increase your stitch count more frequently to achieve the desired flare. Try out this pattern and show us your finished masterpiece too. Happy Knitting everyone 💕.
