Pattern Review: The Fern Tee by Knitting for Olive
There is something so satisfying about finding the perfect project for a "hidden gem" yarn from your stash. Today I’m sharing my latest finish: the Fern Tee by Knitting for Olive, a delicate and feminine design that is a dream to knit and wear.
The "Unloved" Yarn That Stole the Show
The story behind this yarn is a funny one! I used Hamanaka "Litios," a beautiful Japanese yarn that is unfortunately now discontinued. Interestingly, it didn't get much attention when it was in stock at the shop—so I decided to "rescue" it for myself!
What I love most are the tiny pom-poms scattered throughout the strand. They add a playful, "too cute" texture to the overall piece that makes the lace pattern truly unique.
Technical Specs & Knitting Notes
If you’re planning to cast on your own Fern Tee, here are my personal notes:
-
Needle Size: I used 3.5mm needles to achieve the perfect tension for this weight.
-
Sizing: I chose the smallest size, and the fit is exactly what I was hoping for—light and airy.
-
The Pattern: The design features a 4-row lace repeat that is engaging but easy to get into a rhythm with. The result is a sophisticated, leafy texture that lives up to its name.
Final Thoughts
Sometimes the yarns that are overlooked on the shelf turn out to be the most magical once knitted up. This Fern Tee has quickly become a favorite in my handmade wardrobe!
